History of Valide Sultan Mosque

Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque is a historical mosque located in the Fatih district of Istanbul. The mosque was built by Pertevniyal Sultan, the mother of the Ottoman sultan Abdulmecid and the wife of Sultan Abdulaziz. Pertevniyal Valide Sultan was recognized as an influential valide sultan during the reign of Abdulaziz.

The construction of the mosque started in 1869 and was completed in 1871. Its architect is Sarkis Balyan. Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque is one of the impressive examples of Ottoman architecture and reflects the architectural style of its period.

Among the architectural features of the mosque, a large dome, half-domed porticoes on the sides, elegant minaret and marble workmanship attract attention. Its interior contains hand-carved decorations, tiles and a beautiful altar.

The mosque is an important historical monument from the last periods of the Ottoman Empire. The mosque is still open for worship today and offers visitors the opportunity to get to know the architecture and art of the Ottoman period.
