Alanya icon Alanya castle

Undoubtedly, the first thing that comes to mind when you say Alanya is alanya castle. Alanya castle, which became a symbol integrated with Alanya, has historically been home to Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman and Seljuk civilizations. The castle, which attracts a lot of tourists, is at the top of the program of all hotels and tours. The walls of the castle, which is 6.5 km long and the ruins of the castle, which are located on an area of 10 hectares, belong to the Byzantine period.

Built in the best part of the city as a location and difficult to surround thanks to its sheltered port, this castle has historically been the place of pirates. As a result of the Romans winning the battle in the Korakesion War, the castle was taken over by the Romans and named “Kalonoros” (Beautiful Mountain). The castle, which became one of the busiest ports of the period, was retaliated in 1221 by Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat and renamed “Alaiye”. Alaiye was the second shipyard of the Seljuks after Sinoptan at that time. During the Ottoman Empire, the fortress of Alaiye was incorporated into ottoman lands in 1471 by Gedik Ahmet Pasha, one of the commanders of Fatih Sultan Mehmetin.

As a result of the mistaken spelling of “Alanya” instead of “Alâiye” in the telegram between Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and the mayor of the republic period, the name of this district was changed to “Alanya” in 1933.

Alanya is a district of Antalya in the Mediterranean region, 154 km from the city center. Alanya is one of the important cornerstones of the country’s tourism. The livelihoods of the district are agriculture and tourism. The dimensions of the domestic banana produced in the district are almost the same as the imported banana. A high amount of the country’s domestic banana needs are sourced from this district. In addition, avocados, oranges, new worlds, citrus fruits, tomatoes and cucumbers are also produced in the district.

Nightlife in Alanya is very colorful. There is also ample european cuisine. Vegetable dishes are emphasized in the regional cuisines in the region. In alanya cuisine, we recommend to say lakehouse, pheasant piya, fresh okra, pod piya, smiley soup. For dessert, ox halva, spoon halva, walnut house baklava and curvature are among the local desserts.
